The SMART Suite of products are an easy to use system for Case Based Reasoning, also called Experienced Based Reasoning. Case Based Reasoning solves new problems by using or adapting solutions that were used to solve old problems and makes it easy to store and retrieve knowledge about customer problems, legal precedents, health matters and many other subjects.
SMART is particularly suited to finding information that users are not able to describe easily, or that may be described differently by different users. The program accepts a natural language description of a problem or situation, and then asks the users a series of questions to help narrow down the topic, much as a human expert would. This interaction may be in many languages, and even natural speech (i.e. the spoken word), with the appropriate modules. Because of this natural, human-like interaction, users can learn to perform searches with little or no training.
The SMART Suite of products employs a number of sophisticated Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing (NLP) algorithms to find cases that are similar, but not necessarily identical to the situation being described by a user. It is especially powerful at measuring the similarity of text strings, and can actually understand the semantics of a users request in many languages.
